
Amy Ford
Amy Ford is a mother, author, and advocate. As a CPS foster parent since 2002, she has parented dozens of children and adopted three African-American daughters. Amy is a charter member of the Austin-based support group Parenting Across Color and she now serves as president of the organization. She is a member of the board of directors for the Texas Council on Adoptable Children, a blogger for NaturallyCurly on the topic of hair in multicultural families, and the author of “Brown Babies Pink Parents.”

Amy Ford, is the author of “Brown Babies Pink Parents” and is President of Parenting Across Colors, a support system for transracial families created when Caucasian parents adopt African- American/African/Caribbean children, many of whom have spent time in the foster system. According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, 36% of all adoptions consummated in Texas in 2010 were transracial, meaning the ethnicity of the child did not match the ethnicity of the parent. Ms. Ford shares advocacy tips for CASA/GAL volunteers based on her personal and professional experiences with multicultural families and placements. Learn to identify the unique needs of African-American children in the foster system and potential resources in the community to meet those needs.
