Deborah K. Green, is a services program administrator for Child Protective Services (CPS) in Houston.  Ms. Green has worked in every area of Child Welfare.  Ms. Green is responsible for several state child protection program areas which include Circles of Support, Preparation for Adult Living, Family Group Decision Making; Family Team Meetings, Family Group Conference, Education Specialists, and the I See You Conservatorship program. Ms. Green is the regional CPS liaison to the Texas Youth Commission and Texas Juvenile Probation Commission. Ms. Green presents on prevention, intervention with families, permanency; and transitional youth services for adolescents that have been “most difficult to serve” as they transition out of the child welfare system into adulthood. She is co-editor of the 2008 CWLA Special Edition Journal on Disproportionality in Child Welfare, and recently co-author of the college level textbook, Challenging Racial Disproportionality in Child Welfare: Research, Policy, and Practice (2011).

B5 Invincible Youth: Building Resiliency in Youth Aging Out of Foster Care

This workshop presents an innovative pilot in Fort Bend County that builds resiliency in youth through dynamic and empowering Youth Led Circles of Support (COS) meetings that begin once a youth turns 14. A facilitated panel of experts that includes a former foster youth, a CASA supervisor, and a CPS staff will share their passion and collaboration to change the odds for negative outcomes for youth leaving care and break the foster care syndrome by building invincible youth!
