
Jeffrey Wherry, PhD
Dr. Jeffrey Wherry has worked with residential populations, foster children, and in an outpatient clinic. Dr. Wherry was the CEO of Children’s Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis, where he also was involved in training, outpatient work with sexually abused children, and research. He has been a tenured professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the University of Missouri—St. Louis, Abilene Christian University and is working at Texas Tech University. He directs the Institute for Child and Family Studies which focuses on child and family trauma and he is the Rockwell Chair of Child and Family Programs and Policies.
Dr. Wherry completed his doctorate at the University of Southern Mississippi, his clinical psychology internship at the Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and his post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Wherry earned his Diplomate in clinical psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology.

CASA volunteers often are the only person to review complete records impacting the decision-making process and plan of treatment for children. Come learn about how children are misdiagnosed and how functional trauma symptoms often are labeled as “psychotic” or “bipolar.” Clinical and research data will be applied for both understanding and treatment planning.

B1 Making Sense of Psychological, Educational & Psychiatric Reports & Treatments for CASA Kids

This presentation will assist CASA volunteers and staff in making sense of the psychological, educational and psychiatric reports for the children they serve. The workshop will provide an overview of abuse-related symptoms and psychological tests which are appropriate for youth served by CASA. Additionally, this workshop will introduce evidence-based treatments for abused children and their abusive parents. The goal is to prepare CASA volunteers and others to be strong advocates for the children they serve.
